Buying wire mesh sounds easy — until you have to actually order it. Chain link or welded? What gauge? GI or PVC? Roll or panel? Get any of these wrong, and the mesh does not fit, does not last, or costs more than needed.
At Shree Balaji Anonet, we are a wire mesh supplier in Raipur and we help clients pick the right mesh every day. This guide makes it simple.
Step 1: What Will You Use It For?
The mesh type depends on the job:
- Fencing: Chain link netting. Diamond pattern, flexible, cheap, easy to put on posts.
- Concrete work: Welded wire mesh. Rigid grid that gives strength when put inside concrete slabs and walls.
- Machine guards: Welded mesh panels. Strong enough to stop impact and protect workers.
- Screens & filters: Woven wire mesh. Precise small holes for sorting, filtering, or airflow.
- Animal cages: Chain link or welded mesh, based on animal size.
Step 2: Pick the Mesh Type
Chain Link Netting
Diamond pattern mesh. Made from GI or PVC wire. Heights: 3 ft to 6 ft. Sold in 10 m, 15 m or 30 m rolls. Gauges: 8G heavy, 10G standard, 12G light. Best for: compound walls, factory fencing, farms, sports fields.
Welded Wire Mesh
Wires welded at each crossing — rigid and strong. Opening sizes: 12 mm to 200 mm. Wire thickness: 2 mm to 6 mm. Sold as panels (8 ft × 4 ft is standard) or rolls. Best for: RCC slab work, plaster mesh, security cages, machine guards, partitions.
Woven Wire Mesh
Wires woven together — flexible with precise holes. Opening size as small as less than 1 mm. Best for: industrial screens, HVAC filters, grain sorting, window guards.
Step 3: Choose Material & Coating
- GI (Galvanized Iron): Zinc coat on steel. Good rust protection. Most common choice in Chhattisgarh.
- PVC Coated: Plastic layer over GI wire. Better rust protection. Comes in green, black, white. Good for outdoor fences.
- MS (Mild Steel): Raw steel, no coating. Cheaper but will rust outside. Only for indoor use.
- Stainless Steel: Best rust protection. Higher cost. For food factories, chemical plants. Special order.
Step 4: Pick Gauge (Wire Thickness)
Smaller gauge number = thicker wire:
- 8G (~4 mm): Heavy duty — high security, big animal cages.
- 10G (~3.2 mm): Standard — most common for fencing & welded mesh.
- 12G (~2.6 mm): Medium — light fencing, aviary mesh, plaster mesh.
- 14–20G (~2–0.9 mm): Light — insect screen, fine filters.
Not sure? WhatsApp us your use case. We will tell you the right gauge.
Step 5: Calculate How Much You Need
Measure the total area. For fencing: running length × height. Add 5–10% extra for cutting and overlap. For concrete mesh: measure slab area and add overlap at joints. We can help you calculate if you share your site sizes.
